Emergency Dentistry

An unexpected toothache is an unwelcome inconvenience. At Heritage Dentistry we understand that a dental emergency can be scary. If you ever feel like you have a dental emergency, don’t hesitate to call Dr. Skousen and his Heritage Dentistry team at their Frisco, Texas office.

Common Dental Emergencies

Even though patients have a toothache, they may avoid an emergency appointment because they don’t feel their concern is serious. If you are in doubt, call our office. We will be happy to discuss your concerns, no matter how small it is. A few common reasons patients visit Dr. Skousen with a dental emergency is a broken or chipped tooth, a toothache, a missing tooth, and excessive bleeding from the gums or mouth.

What Should I Do If I Lose A Permanent Tooth?

If you are playing a contact sport or you are in an accident and you lose a tooth, don’t panic. If your tooth is still attached to your gums, gently push it back into place if possible. Do not force the tooth in place, this could damage the gums and the nerves, making it difficult for the Heritage Dentistry team to save the tooth. After an accident, if your tooth is not attached to your gums, gently wipe it off and try to place it back in its spot. Similarly, do not scrub dirt off the tooth because you could damage the delicate nerves. Lastly, if your tooth does not fit back into place, put it in a jar or bag of milk. Call Heritage Dentistry and tell them that you are coming in for an emergency dental appointment. Your tooth has the highest chance of being saved if you get to the dentist within 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Is A Toothache A Dental Emergency?

Yes, it can be. There are a number of different causes for a toothache. A deep infection or large decay could be irritating the inner nerves of the tooth causing pain. If you have a toothache, brush and floss right away. Many times, food stuck in-between teeth can cause emese pain. If the pain does not subside after you gently brush and floss, you may have a toothache dental emergency. Call Heritage Dentistry at our Frisco, Texas office right away to schedule an appointment.
